Anna Maria Island is a breathtaking vacation destination right in the heart of Florida. Come experience the calm and quaint getaway that will help you avoid the crowds while putting you just minutes away from all the best local attractions. There’s a little something for everyone, from the freshest seafood to incredible white sand beaches to unique shopping and more.
One of the best features of the area is the unbelievable nature. If you’re looking to get outdoors on your vacation, you’ve got to head to Robinson Nature Preserve. It’s undoubtedly one of the most special Anna Maria day trips, and even the indoor people in your group will love the experience!
Things to Do at the Robinson Nature Preserve
There are endless activities to enjoy at the Robinson Nature Preserve, so you and your loved ones can spend the entire day exploring. You have over 650 acres of land at your disposal, with varying ecosystems like the former agricultural lands turned coastal wetland, tidal marshes, and preserved mangroves. You can discover all of these areas thanks to the trails throughout, perfect for hiking, biking, rollerblading, or taking a nature walk.
The Robinson Nature Preserve recently underwent an “Expansion,” allowing you, even more, to get into. You’ll find even more coastal wetlands and other habitats, as well as a 2.5k pedestrian trail and picnic areas. The most exciting part of this addition is the NEST, a state-of-the-art educational and event center.
You can truly find all things nature at the Preserve. Come view the stunning surroundings from the observation tower, get in the water on a kayak or canoe, or take to the trails with your loved ones and your furry friend. Enjoy lunch at the picnic areas, learn from the experienced guides, and try your hand at fishing. The possibilities are endless!
Make a Day Trip to the Preserve
With so much to do, it may seem like you won’t have enough time to experience it all. Rest assured, with a bit of planning, you can make a day trip that will be one to remember. Get to the Preserve early and take to the trails before it gets too warm. This will give you the best opportunity to spot some incredible wildlife and get in your exercise, whether you choose to take a leisurely walk, a brisk hike, or a bike ride.
After your trip on the trails, head over to the picnic areas to enjoy a delicious lunch. By then, it will likely be getting pretty warm, so you can head inside to the NEST or the Valentine House visitor center to escape the heat and learn more about the area. Finally, finish your day by the water. Take an excursion kayaking or canoeing or cast your line for a fish. You’re able to stay out until sunset experiencing the beauty of Florida’s nature.
